All Stars Among Us

mlbherosamonguspicOn Tuesday night I was watching Major League Baseball’s All Star Game. One of things I was really impressed with besides the game itself was how Major League Baseball took time to not only recognize the best players in the game today, but “All Stars Among Us.” This campaign shined the spotlight on people who are going above and beyond to serve in their communities.

One particular hero stood out to me and that was Ryan Housley who founded HeroBox to support soldiers in combat. Ryan was moved to act by conversations with his younger brother, Evan who was stationed in Iraq. He created a HeroBox which is a care package that has been customized to a soldiers specific request. The troops have certain needs and wants depending on their sex, location, and a variety of other factors. The typical care package that a soldier receives isn’t always influenced by those needs and wants. Our goal is to make sure that each HeroBox is directly influenced by the soldier.

With instant and growing demand, Ryan now works full time on the project, ensuring that every soldier feels appreciated. HeroBox engages America’s greatest resource, the people, to support our Heroes through a variety of programs and initiatives. Whether you want to Adopt a Soldier, Host a HeroDay or make a donation, HeroBox offers numerous opportunities for you to get involved.
